Wherever the members of the Jackson family were today, they were mourning Michael.
While Michael’s siblings paid their respects to their fallen brother with a trip to his mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif., the King of Pop’s mother, Katherine, flew with Michael’s kids to their family’s old home in Gary, Ind., for the unveiling of a monument in honor of the first anniversary of her global-superstar son’s death.
Katherine and the kids—who were vacationing in Hawaii all week—initially planned to return to Los Angeles tonight to be with the rest of the family, a source tells E! News. But they might not make it back until tomorrow, when Katherine’s supposedly making an appearance at another tribute/book-launch party at the Beverly Hilton.
Granddaughter Genevieve, Randy Jackson‘s daughter, is schedueld to perform at the event.
“This past year has been very hard on the family,” Katherine told the fans gathered in front of the modest house in Gary. “If it wasn’t for the help of all of you, we wouldn’t have made it through.”
Added cousin Keith Jackson, who sang at the event today: “It’s a great feeling that we can share our talent with the world and for me to be here for Michael. It’s really emotional. I’m really happy to be here.”
Back in SoCal, Janet Jackson and brothers Jermaine, Tito and Randy, who just suffered a heart attack last week, made the pilgrimage to Forest Lawn, then gathered with other family members for lunch at a private Beverly Hills home, according to a source close to the family.
“When they were walking out of the house they were hugging each other and it looked like they were trying to console each other,” an eyewitness tells E! News.
A steady stream of mourners dropped off flowers and other mementos at the Jackson family’s Encino compound throughout the day, as well.
Patriarch Joe Jackson, meanwhile, picked today to file a wrongful death suit against Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael’s private physician who’s been charged with manslaughter.
